Aldi reveals potential look for new Hanworth store

Aldi Stores Limited has submitted a planning application to transform the former Homebase site on Twickenham Road, Hanworth, which closed its doors in March this year.
The proposals include alterations to the shopfront, glazing, and doors, alongside changes to the servicing area, the creation of a new loading bay, and the installation of plant equipment.
In the application, Aldi estimates the cost of the project to be between £2 million and £100 million.

Planning consultants Avison Young, on behalf of Aldi, state: "The Proposed Development will deliver a high-quality Aldi food store alongside a second commercial unit that would support the local economy... and would bring a vacant and underutilised building back into active use through retrofit."
Due to the large size of the former Homebase site, Aldi has opted to split the unit into two separate retail spaces, with 1,810 sqm dedicated to the Aldi store itself.

While there are no changes planned for the existing car park, Aldi's proposals include 24 customer cycle parking spaces and 12 staff cycle spaces, promoting sustainable travel to the site.
If granted approval, Aldi intends to begin works in September 2025, with completion anticipated by September 2026.
The site has been vacant since Homebase ceased trading five months ago.
