A new women's social darts initiative has landed in Twickenham after a successful launch in Teddington, with a full-house taster session attracting 12 women to The Prince Albert.

The Teddington Women's Amateur Darts League (TWADL) hosted the event yesterday evening (Tuesday, 21 July), giving women of all ages and abilities the chance to try social darts in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Many of those attending had never met before, but organisers said the ice was quickly broken through a series of fun team games as players got to know each other.

The session welcomed beginners alongside those with previous darts experience who were looking for a more social way to enjoy the sport.

Highlights of the evening include newcomer Tilly impressing with a string of treble scores despite never having played before, Sharon seeing a dart bounce out of the board and land in someone's drink, and birthday celebrant Ange sealing victory for her team with the winning dart.

Hannah Dees, founder of TWADL, told Nub News: "People often assume that TWADL is about learning to play darts, but really it's about giving women a regular reason to get together and do nothing more complicated than have fun," she said.

"Darts is such an accessible, social sport. At TWADL, being a part of a darts team is less about competition and far more about connection."

The Twickenham session follows a similar event held in Teddington earlier this summer, which has already led to the formation of two new women's social darts teams.

Organisers are now hoping to establish the first TWADL team in Twickenham and say there is enough interest for a second side if more players sign up.

The event also showcased the role local pubs can play in bringing communities together, with The Prince Albert providing the venue for the evening.

Women interested in joining a team do not need any previous darts experience. Those wishing to find out more can email [email protected] or contact @twadlers on Instagram or Facebook.
