Bookings now required for garden waste collections

The Council has dropped its routine collection of green garden waste in favour of a booking system.
In the past, households would leave the sacks on the pavement to be collected by binmen according to a regular fortnightly rota.
However, from now on these collections will only be made if the household makes a booking.
From Monday of this week, garden waste sack collections must be booked by 12 noon on the working day before collection. These collections will only be possible once every two weeks.
The Council said the change is designed to ensure green waste collections are more targeted and efficient, so reducing vehicle emissions.
The Council said: "Collections of up to 10 sacks can be booked fortnightly and will occur on the same day as rubbish and recycling in your street, so please remember to plan ahead. Check available garden waste collection dates for your street."
Binmen will only collect garden waste in the branded green sacks supplied by the Council. Sacks are sold in packs of 10 and cost £21.30 including postage. Individual sacks can be bought from libraries for £1.89 each.
The Council also runs a subscription service for fortnightly garden waste collections of 240 litre wheelie bins.
