Richmond Council has announced the date for the 2026 local elections.

On Thursday, 7 May, residents across Richmond borough's 18 wards will head to polling stations to elect their local councillors.

Residents who are not registered to vote have until 20 April to do so.

Once registered, voters will be able to cast their ballot in person, by post or by proxy at election time.

Students living away from home can register at both their home address and their university term-time address.

If a person splits their time between two addresses, for example, students with a home and a term-time address, they may register to vote at both, provided the addresses are not within the same local authority area.

Residents can register to vote from the age of 16, but they cannot vote until they are 18. British, Irish, Commonwealth and eligible European citizens living in the UK can register to vote.

Those wishing to vote who do not have a fixed address can do so by completing a 'declaration of local connection', which can be obtained through Richmond Council.
