Demolition begins at Twickenham Riverside to pave way for regeneration

Demolition is now underway at Twickenham Riverside, marking a milestone moment in Richmond Council's flagship regeneration project.
This stage of works will see the removal of the old pool buildings, the former café, and three King Street retail units, clearing the way for the long-awaited transformation of the riverside.
Councillor Gareth Roberts, Leader of Richmond Council, said: "Residents will now see real change on site as we move toward creating a riverside that's open, vibrant and at the heart of the community."
The Council and contractors Kier are taking a sustainable approach to the project, with 95% of demolition materials set to be recycled or reused.
Real-time monitoring is also in place to manage dust, noise and vibration, while maintaining access for residents to the riverside throughout the works.
Cllr Jim Millard, Deputy Leader and Finance Lead, added: "With demolition now underway, we are laying the foundations for new homes, public spaces, and a revitalised riverside that better connects Twickenham town centre with the Thames.
"Every step brings this project closer to reality and demonstrates the Council's commitment to delivering lasting benefits for Twickenham and the wider borough."

Cllr Roberts described the demolition as a "major milestone in delivering a riverside Twickenham can be proud of."
According to the Council, demolition is expected to be completed by early December, followed by final site clearance. Main construction is due to begin in early 2026.
The redevelopment will deliver:
- New public spaces including terraced lawns, gardens, children's play areas and riverside seating
- 45 new homes, including affordable housing
- New shops, café and community facilities
- Improved pedestrian and vehicle connections between King Street, Wharf Lane, Water Lane and the riverside
