A row of 20 "derelict" garages could be demolished in Twickenham to make way for a series of new homes.

Davies Murch has submitted yet another application to redevelop the plot on Sion Road, saying the works will make way for a one-bed flat, two one-bed houses and three, two-bed houses.

The site - which is to the rear of Sion Court - would also make way for 28 bicycle parking spaces and 527 sqm of "landscaped communal amenity space".

The application explains: "The existing Sion Court itself is a substantial mansion block which occupies an important position within the surrounding townscape, due in part to its large scale and height in contrast to the generally more modest scale of surrounding buildings and spaces on the fringes of the town centre and along the River Thames."

A similar application was rejected by Richmond Council last year, which raised a number of concerns about the development.

But in this latest scheme, Davies Murch says it has addressed the issues raised by the local authority.

"The quality of residential development has been considered, and improved, throughout the design process," the application said.

"The scale, massing and external appearance have also been designed with consideration to the site's local context, and townscape views.

"The impact on neighbouring residents has been largely considered within the proposal and major amends completed since the recent dismissed appeal."
