A new central Asian restaurant opening in Twickenham is applying for a pavement seating licence, with only four days before the public consultation period ends on Tuesday, 14 May.

Located along York Street near central Twickenham, women-led eatery Nowruz is hoping to include two tables at the front of the restaurant once it opens.

Their application states the tables will only take up a 2.7m by 0.7m area of the pavement, and will be used from 11am to 11pm throughout the week.

Nowruz's owners say the restaurant "pays homage to the chaikhanas (teahouses) of Central Asia," claiming it is the first of its kind in the UK.

While there is no set opening date yet, its owners announced in a recent Instagram post that they plan to launch Nowruz "sometime in May".

The business is still looking for staff to join its new team, especially those familiar with Afghan, Uzbek and Iranian cuisine, and is asking interested candidates to email [email protected].

Public comments and objections to Nowruz's pavement seating are being accepted until 14 May via email to [email protected].
