Emergency works are taking place at Hospital Bridge Road by the railway bridge, next to Montrose Avenue due to a gas leak which began yesterday (26 March 2025).

Cadent Gas attended the gas leak closing off Hospital Bridge Road, Whitton as engineers continue to identify the source of the leak.

Richmond Council say: "The leak involves a 24 inch medium pressure Victorian gas main, which forms part of the strategic network supplying gas across London.

"While the source of the leak is yet to be identified, Cadent Gas teams are working tirelessly to locate it."

Due to the complexity of the gas leak, Hospital Bridge Road will remain closed until 31 March.

The council add it is working closely with Cadent Gas to ensure repairs "are expedited as much as possible".

Additionally, London Buses has confirmed a temporary diversion for bus route 481 via Nelson Road and High Street Whitton and Percy Road until Hospital Bridge Road reopens.
