Council planners have given the green light for a new chicken shop to give a makeover to a former Twickenham bank.

Planning permission has been granted for a new shopfront at the former HSBC on London Road.

The application was submitted to Richmond Council by Flavours of Opulance and shows the ground floor would be fitted with a seating area, fryers, a grill, and a salad/burger station.

Council planners have granted permission for a new extractor fan to be installed at the rear as well as for the front of the unit to be given a makeover.

Seven objections were received by neighbours saying the designs are out of keeping with the local area and the extractor fan would negatively impact the local flats.

However, council planners have now granted permission.

A council report said: "The design/appearance of the new shopfront is considered appropriate and in keeping with the wider street scene/town centre.

"A shopfront of this nature would be expected in this area."

The bank's Twickenham site closed on 20 June 2023. This closure was part of a broader plan by HSBC to shut down 114 branches across the UK.
