Investigation launched after innocent driver injured in collision with drink drive suspect

A motorist suffered serious injuries when his car was hit by another vehicle that had earlier been involved in a police pursuit.

The collision happened at just before midnight on Tuesday at the roundabout junction between the Uxbridge Road and Park Road, Hampton.

It is understood that the innocent driver had to be cut from his vehicle and was taken by ambulance to a west London hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

Roads in the area were closed off through to today – Wednesday – to allow for a police investigation, which led to serious jams and delays.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to call 101 and quote CAD reference 10350/18APR23. Alternatively they can call Crimestoppers or contact fearless.org.

The Metropolitan Police said that one man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for the police and driving above the prescribed drink drive limit.

A spokesman said: "The suspect vehicle was being pursued by officers, however the pursuit was terminated prior to the collision taking place. The Met's Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed.

'A crime scene is currently in place while an investigation into the incident takes place.'
