Walkers of all abilities are encouraged to join a new programme of monthly Wellbeing Walks and Accessible Walks launched by Richmond Council's Parks Team and the Friendly Parks for All project to encourage everyone to get outside and enjoy the borough's parks and open spaces.

The Wellbeing Walks are held every month in different locations throughout the borough and last for 90 minutes.

Participants can socialise and learn a little about the ecology and history of Richmond upon Thames' parks and open spaces.

Cllr Piers Allen, Lead member for Adult Social Care and Health and Chair of the Richmond Health and Wellbeing Board, said: "Richmond upon Thames has more green spaces than any other London borough, with 128 parks and areas of open spaces!

"Walking is a fantastic way to explore these spaces and to enjoy the physical and mental benefits of exercising surrounded by nature.

"The Wellbeing Walks and Accessible Walks programmes are safe and sociable and have been introduced to help those who might feel uncomfortable being out and about after recent lockdowns. Volunteers will be on hand to help guide walkers and ensure no one gets left behind!"

The next walk is from Richmond Green to Kew Green and takes place on 15 July 2021 at 10.30am. Walkers should meet on Richmond Little Green opposite the library.

The Accessible Walks welcome people with limited mobility or walking aids, those in wheelchairs, families with pushchairs, or people who prefer to walk at a slower pace.

The next accessible walk is today, 12 July 2021, and will be between Twickenham Junction Rough and Kneller Gardens. Walkers should meet next to the fountains at The Exchange, London Road, TW1 1BE at 10.15am.

A list of future walks and locations can be found on the Friendly Parks for All website.
