Community group Kick for a Cure are holding a day of summer activities this weekend in support of brain tumour research.

The fundraiser will be held at Waldegrave School this Saturday, and will feature a five-a-side football tournament as its headline event.

Organisers Lola Peppiatt and Bella Pemberton hope the afternoon will help Kick for a Cure help raise money for charity in memory of Bella's mother, Sophie Pemberton, who died on 29 April after being diagnosed with a brain tumor during the pandemic lockdown in 2020.

While initially believed to be benign, the tumour sadly became more aggressive the following year.

"There was little knowledge of how this would affect her later life, how many years she had to come, yet that never stopped her from being her resilient self," reads group's fundraising page.

It continues: "Sophie was gifted in bringing people together through friendship, faith and community, which we aim to do through this football tournament."

On their Instagram, the organisers expressed their gratitude for any donations "regardless of how big or small" made towards the "impactful and important" work undertaken by the event's beneficiary, The Brain Tumour Charity, the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally.

Alongside the football competition will be a wide range activities for all age groups, including food, live music, a raffle, and face painting.

The event is a perfect afternoon for friends and family to gather, raise money and enjoy themselves while celebrating the memory Ms Pemberton.

Kick for a Cure will take place at Waldegrave School on Saturday 6 July, from 2pm to 4:45pm.

While tickets have sold out online, they can still be purchased on the door before 2pm for £3.
