The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) scheme that makes drivers of non-compliant vehicles pay a fee to enter London will not have to on Christmas Day.

Introduced by London Mayor Sadiq Khan, which came into effect in April 2019 and now covers the whole of London, means drivers of non-compliant vehicles must pay a fee of £12.50 to drive into the capital.

However, this charge will not apply on Christmas Day, meaning drivers of these vehicles will be able to drive into London free of charge for 24 hours from midnight until midnight on December 25.

The Mayor and London Assembly website states: "The ULEZ operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year, except Christmas Day."

Still, Christmas Day is the only bank holiday that the charges will not apply, with the charge coming back into effect on Boxing Day.

Moreover, London's Congestion Charge, which covers Central London will not apply on Christmas Day, and the exemption will run for eight days up until midnight on New Year's Day.
