Richmond's new Christmas light promise to add extra sparkle to the town – and save energy.

The lights are funded by town centre businesses through Be Richmond, which is also behind the new public entertainment space at Whittaker Avenue.

The centrepiece of the lights is of a magnificent stag, while the displays have been extended to parts of the town centre, which were previously left in the dark.

Be Richmond said: "With classical, timeless gold and silver lighting, the newly designed scheme reflects Richmond's

architecture and surroundings, for example, the bespoke deer centrepiece outside Richmond station which is inspired by Richmond Park.

"The scheme is unique to Richmond and is designed to encourage visitors to explore the whole town centre, and offers photo and selfie opportunities with the striking Deer and Angel Wings installations.

"The illuminations have been extended to previously unlit areas including Hill Rise, Petersham Road, Parkshot and Church Court."

Importantly the lights are installed by a specialist Christmas lighting company that places a strong emphasis on the use of energy-saving LED technology, saving more than 70% on energy consumption compared to traditional bulbs.

As a result, the combined wattage of the entire Richmond scheme is just 8200w, which is about the same as four domestic irons.

Be Richmond said: "All efforts have been made to bring residents and visitors a stunning and unique Christmas Lights

display that promotes community engagement and footfall, all the while thoughtfully considering the economic and environmental impact in these challenging times."

* Be Richmond is the Business Improvement District (BID) for Richmond town centre. Led and owned by its members, it represents over 330 businesses and promotes the town as a great place to live, work and explore. https://berichmond.london/
