Police are appealing for information after a man was hit on the head with a wine bottle on the underground.

British Transport Police has released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to after the "serious assault" on-board a Piccadilly Line train.

At around 2pm on 9 January, the victim boarded an eastbound service from South Ealing.

He was then approached by a man who offered him alcohol.

The victim turned down the offer, and the man became abusive and aggressive.

As the victim alighted at Hammersmith Underground station, the man struck him on the head with a wine bottle causing it to shatter on impact.

He suffered deep cuts to his head requiring emergency medical attention in hospital.

Detectives believe the man in the images could have information that may assist their investigation.

Anyone who recognises him is asked to text BTP on 61016, or call 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 295 of 9 January.

Information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
