MP gets first dose of covid vaccine and encourages Twickenham residents

By The Editor 13th Aug 2021

This photo shows Twickenham's MP receiving her first dose of the Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.

Munira Wilson was given the jab by Dr Naomi Gardner at the Acorn Group practice in central Twickenham.

The Liberal Democrat touched upon the personal reason she became eligible to get the vaccine on Friday (April 9) and encouraged others to do the same when it is their turn.

She said: "I am so pleased to have received my first Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccination. The whole process was quick and painless, and I would like to thank Dr Naomi Gardner, as well as all the staff and volunteers at the Acorn Group practice here in Twickenham. They have been working tirelessly to get local residents vaccinated as quickly as supply allows.

"Despite the recent concerns about rare blood clots, all the evidence points to the benefits of the vaccine far outweighing the risks. I was happy to receive the AstraZeneca jab and do my bit to protect my family and the wider community.

"I became eligible for the vaccine because my husband is on medication that suppresses his immune system. New advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) recommends anyone over the age of 16 in the same household as a person who is immunosuppressed should be vaccinated to reduce the risk of transmission.

"The vaccination programme continues to be key to saving lives and allowing us all to return to normality. In the Twickenham constituency over 50,000 people have already had their first dose and all the available Covid-19 vaccines have been shown to be safe and effective. As soon as people are contacted by the NHS for their jab, I urge them to make and attend their appointments."
