New padel courts could be coming to Twickenham if plans are signed off by Richmond Council.

The David Lloyd Centre has applied for planning permission to replace three of its existing tennis courts with six padel courts.

Plans show three of the new padel courts at the Staines Road site would have a cover.

The application said: "Designed to stay true to the sport's origins, these padel courts will feature a pillars type structure, anti-injury mesh infill panels and 10mm approved glass resulting in attractive and minimalist aesthetics.

"The playing surface will be the latest technology in artificial grass, ensuring that these facilities will be attractive to everyone from total beginners to seasoned players."

The application says padel is one of the fastest growing sports in Europe, and says David Lloyd wants to be at the "forefront of this tennis revolution in the UK".

Six objections have already been made by members of the public.
