Richmond and Twickenham Friends of the Earth have achieved over 400 of their 800-signature goal on a petition to close the dangerous gate from the Richmond Athletic Association to the A316.
The campaign group are hoping to gain 500 signatures before they take the petition to Transport for London.
Green Party Councillor Andrée Frieze expressed her support for the petition on Twitter yesterday.
The exit has seen many near misses and several crashes between cyclists and cars, including a fatal crash in March killing a 58-year-old teacher as she cycled past the junction.
The campaigners have voiced their concerns to TFL and says it is a scandal that the gate remains open, despite five years of warnings of the dangers posed to pedestrians and cyclists.
Several campaign groups came out on Saturday June 19 to show their support for the closure of the gate. Among them were Richmond and Twickenham Friends of the Earth, Richmond Cycling Campaign and Extinction Rebellion.
Richmond and Twickenham Friends of the Earth have published the petition in response to the lack of action following Mrs Seymour's death.
They are campaigning for vehicles to leave the RAA via the road to Pools on the Park.
