Plans submitted to convert part of Twickenham office into two flats

A planning application has been lodged to convert part of an office building in East Twickenham into two new flats.
The proposals, submitted by Empire Managed Offices Ltd, relate to Richmond Bridge House on Richmond Road.
The plan would see the rear section of the two-storey office building converted into two residential units, one with one bedroom and another with two.

In the planning documents, the applicant explained: "The existing building is a two-storey office structure incorporating facilities such as kitchens and lavatories.
"The existing first floor includes a void space that separates the front and rear sections.
"The proposed design optimises this void by repositioning the rear office forward, increasing the building's usable area without altering its external footprint."

Richmond Bridge House, which sits within an Edwardian shopping parade on the edge of the historic Twickenham Park estate, was renamed during alterations in 1988.
Recent changes include stained glass bearing the building's monogram and a mosaic name feature in the foyer.
The applicants stressed that the heritage character of the building would be preserved.

It said: "The proposal maintains the building's historical and architectural significance, aligning with its designation as a Building of Townscape Merit.
"By retaining the current mass, bulk, and scale of the building, and making thoughtful changes exclusively at the rear or internally, the proposal ensures that the aims of the Richmond Road East Twickenham Conservation Area are met."

If approved, the scheme would add two homes to the borough's housing stock while keeping the main front section of the building in office use.
The plans are yet to be decided by Richmond Council. To read the full application click here.
