A red phone box in East Twickenham is set to be transformed into a coffee kiosk.

Approval has been granted for the plan by St Margarets resident Martin Duffy of the Red Box Charitable Trust.

The reinvented phone box at the foot of Richmond Bridge will sell coffee, tea and other hot beverages, pre-prepared packed food and cold drinks.

"A key community benefit of this proposal is the creation of employment for young people in Richmond borough whose prospects have been adversely affected by the economic fallout of Covid-19," the application to Richmond Council reads.

"Stock would be sourced from local suppliers (such as Scottie's Coffee, which is fair trade, ethically sourced and hand-roasted in Twickenham)."

Under the plans the phone box will remain - it will just be given a makeover and used to serve the food and drinks.

The Red Box Charitable Trust said it will donate a proportion of profits from the coffee kiosk to charities in the borough.
