Richmond upon Thames has been named the third safest borough in London and the fifth safest place in the UK in a new study by security training company Get Licensed.

The company analysed police-recorded crime, year-on-year changes in crime severity, reoffending and antisocial behaviour, alongside data on public-space CCTV coverage, to determine the safest and least safe places across the country.

Richmond recorded an annual crime rate of 67.1 offences per 1,000 people, with a year-on-year crime change of just 0.91 per cent.

The borough's Crime Severity Score was calculated at 9.8, with a reoffending rate of 18.83 per cent, giving Richmond an overall Safety Score of 7.55 out of 10.

Neighbouring boroughs also fared well. Sutton came top as both London's and the UK's safest place, while Kingston upon Thames was ranked second in the capital.

The report also highlighted areas where there may be a gap in licensed security professionals, such as trained CCTV operators or door supervisors, to help keep communities safe.
