Richmond Council announces next phase of lamp post EV charging point transfer to char.gy

Richmond Council announces the next phase of a new company taking over lamp post charging points across the borough.
char.gy Ltd took over from ubitricity through a phased rollout, which started last July.
Additionally, there will be a new price at these sites, which will be 39p per kWh.
Richmond borough has more than 1,000 electric vehicle charging points, including 337 lamp post charging points which have been operated by ubitricity under contract with Siemens.
The technology of these charge points is open access and designed to be transferable between operators. Phase one involved transferring the 179 ubitricity charge points originally installed over 2023/24.
Phase two incorporating 69 charge points has commenced, and the final phase of 89 sites will begin in November 2025.
Richmond Council say char.gy operatives will attend each of the chargers to replace the payment QR code and signage, and ensure all systems are operational.
Works are programmed across two weeks but some sites may take longer if issues arise on transfer.
The council will work with char.gy to resolve any issues as soon as possible.
The charge points themselves will not change, and there will be no changes to the charging process other than payments now being made to char.gy instead of ubitricity via the new QR code provided.
