Richmond Council's Licensing Sub-Committee has granted Harvest Haven Supermarket an alcohol licence, allowing the upcoming Twickenham-based store to sell alcohol to customers.

The decision was made on 8 April 2025 after a Licensing Sub-Committee meeting on 3 April.

Harvest Haven, on Heath Road, sought the licence as part of its preparations for opening.

The supermarket, which will focus on selling organic and locally sourced products, had requested permission to sell alcohol in order to better serve its customers.

The application was met with some objections, with concerns raised about the potential impact on the surrounding area.

However, after careful consideration, the committee approved the application, noting that Harvest Haven had outlined measures to ensure the responsible sale of alcohol.

According to the decision notice, the supermarket will be allowed to sell alcohol off the premises between 8am - 11pm daily.

The store itself will be open to the public for 24 hours everyday.

Although some local residents had expressed concerns about the potential for anti-social behaviour, the committee was reassured by the supermarket's commitment to managing the sale of alcohol responsibly, ensuring that any issues would be swiftly addressed.

In its decision, the committee said: "The Sub Committee determined that, given the establishment will operate as a supermarket rather than exclusively selling alcohol, and considering the conditions agreed upon with the Police leading to the withdrawal of their objections, licensing this premises is not anticipated to contribute to crime and disorder in the area.

"Although the objectors were not present at the meeting, the Sub-Committee carefully considered their representations.

"The Sub-Committee were of the view the conditions agreed with the police, particularly the agreed reduction to the hours of alcohol sales, would address a common concern of the objectors.

"The Sub-Committee assessed the risk of theft associated with the availability of smaller containers of alcohol and determined that imposing a restriction on the sale of spirits and pre-mixed cans of alcohol from behind the counter would adequately mitigate this issue."

During the Licensing Sub-Committee meeting, Harvest Haven said it expects to open around Easter.
