Now that the festive season is wrapping up, Richmond Council are offering a Christmas tree recycling scheme.

Christmas tree collections will run from Monday 8 to Friday 19 January 2024, on the garden waste collection day for your street.

This service is free and you do not require a garden waste contract to have your tree collected and recycled.

All trees must be presented in a front garden visible from the pavement (if you have one) or on the pavement by your entrance.

Please ensure you do not cause an obstruction by only putting your tree out on your collection day.

They cannot collect the following:

Trees are sent for composting, so we will not collect your tree if it is:

  • Plastic/not real
  • Still decorated
  • In soil or a pot/stand
  • Over 6ft (please cut into smaller pieces)

If you live in a flat you can take your Christmas tree to a drop-off point.

If this is not possible we will collect trees left where they are visible from the road. If there are a number of trees please create a pile taking care not to cause an obstruction.

Trees should be left out after 6.30pm on the day before the collection is due, and by 6.30am on the collection day.

There are also Christmas tree drop off points:

Report an abandoned tree

Dumped Christmas trees are unsightly and can cause a dangerous obstruction.

Once we receive a report of an abandoned tree we will aim to collect it within two working days.
