Richmond upon Thames has ranked as the seventh healthiest area in a recent study.

The study, carried out by a health and wellness expert at bluehorizonbloodtests.co.uk assessed various UK local authorities, government districts, boroughs, and counties.

The rankings were based on analysis of 12 criteria: air quality (PM2.5 concentration), adult smoking rates, alcohol misuse, the prevalence of cancer, diabetes, drug misuse, healthy eating habits, high blood pressure, kidney and liver diseases, adults with mental health problems, obesity rates, and physical activity levels.

Whilst Richmond ranked as the seventh healthiest, it did have a relatively high reported amount of mental health conditions, with 8.3% of the population reporting mental health conditions.

The borough also scored the highest for air quality, at 8.3, which was measured by annual mean PM2.5 concentration

However, the borough did have low levels of cancer (3.1% of the population), kidney and liver diseases (1.2% of the population), diabetes (3.9% of the population), smokers (8.2% of adults), and BMIs classified as overweight or obese (45.5%).

Richmond gained a final score of 75.3 out of 100.

South Hams, which is located on the south coast of Devon, ranked as the study's healthiest area, with a final score of 80.

South Oxfordshire was ranked as the least healthiest area.
