Green light for major revamp of Cambrian Community Centre

Plans to transform a popular Richmond community hub have been given the green light, with a major refurbishment set to expand facilities and improve accessibility for local residents.

Cambrian Community Centre has secured funding for an ambitious redevelopment project that will modernise the building and create more space for activities and services.

The works follow the success of the centre's recently renovated kitchen and will see significant changes to both the layout and facilities. Plans include increasing indoor space, improving access to outdoor areas, and refreshing interiors to make the venue more welcoming and accessible.

Chair of Trustees Sue Pendle said: "I am thrilled to confirm that the Cambrian Community Centre has received the go ahead and funding to expand and develop our popular Centre.

"We thank the Richmond Foundation for their involvement and support, and Richmond Council for their Community Fund Award.

"With this welcome partnership project and funding, we will be able to meet more effectively the needs of our neighbours in this part of the borough, especially those who may be vulnerable or disadvantaged in various ways."

The centre, which hosts a wide range of leisure, fitness and cultural activities, said the improvements will help it better serve the local community at a time when many charities are facing financial pressures.

Building work is expected to begin later this year and last around five months.

Centre organisers say they will keep users updated throughout the process and aim to minimise disruption, with alternative arrangements planned for activities during the works.

Once complete, the refurbished centre is set to relaunch with enhanced facilities, full accessibility and an expanded programme of events and services for the community.
