A fishmonger is set to return to Twickenham following the closure of the long-running Sandys Fishmongers business.

Robin Moxon, owner of Moxon's Fishmongers, has confirmed the business will take over the former Sandys premises, with plans to open on 23 June following a month-long refurbishment.

Speaking to Nub News, Mr Moxon said Twickenham's busy high street and strong community feel made it an attractive location for the business.

"I've always liked areas like this where there's mixed residential and a busy classic high street," he said. "It's a really nice part of the world with a good catchment area and a varied community as well."

The news comes after many residents expressed sadness over the closure of the longstanding fishmongers following the death of owner Stuart Sandys last year.

Mr Moxon said his company was "happy to fill the gap" left behind, adding that the focus would remain firmly on high-quality fish.

"We're really just going to concentrate on the fish," he added. "We buy direct off boats and markets all around the coast, especially in the West Country, and we're very aggressive with the quality of fish that we serve."

Alongside fresh fish, the Twickenham shop will also stock smoked fish and prepared foods produced at the company's Wimbledon-based smokehouse and production facility.

The range will include fish cakes, pies and sauces, as well as the business's own smoked fish products.

Mr Moxon said the company supplies leading London hotels and restaurants and prides itself on maintaining high standards.

"The business is set up to be a shop that I would like to have if I was a customer," he said. "We're very customer-focused and we try to serve the best fish possible to the community."

He said: "Fishmongering is a very simple business really. You've just got to keep your standards high and keep pushing to improve all the time."
