Skylarks extends SEND education advice service amid national crisis
Skylarks Charity on Richmond Road is extending its SEND Education Advice Service, providing free, independent support to even more families of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
This also coincides with the growing national crisis in SEND education, aiming to ensure more SEND children and families receive the support they deserve.
Recent data revealed that 64% of parents in London with SEND children have had to withdraw their children from school due to unmet needs, with 38% of those children missing school for extended periods, sometimes lasting up to a year.
Skylarks say this reflects a broader national issue in SEND education, where families are struggling to access adequate support.

The charity believes that it reflects a broader national issue in SEND education, where families are struggling to access adequate support.
Skylarks Charity is introducing several enhanced support options for families of children with SEND.
These include weekly face-to-face appointments at the Crossway Centre in Richmond, London, bookable online consultations and a new 'Micro Talks' series, offering small-group sessions on key aspects of the EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) process.
Additionally, Skylarks will host in-person Friday talks covering important topics like EHCPs, transitioning to secondary school, and alternative education options such as Education Other Than At School (EOTAS) and Elective Home Education (EHE).
Aaron Guiver, Managing Director at Skylarks Charity, said: "Many families with children and young people who have SEND are feeling frustrated and full of worry about making the right decisions for their child's future. They often feel their children fall through the cracks and they are unable to find the support or appropriate help they need.
"At Skylarks we are here for families and by extending our SEND education service, we aim to support more children and young people. We want to help them reach their full potential and have a better educational experience."
Services at Skylarks are free of charge and open families who have children with any additional needs or disabilities. Donations are appreciated.
