Solar panel inverter fault sets Twickenham loft ablaze
By Nub News Reporter 5th Mar 2026
Around 25 firefighters were called to tackle a loft fire at a home in Twickenham on yesterday afternoon (4 March).
Four fire engines from London Fire Brigade (LFB) attended the incident on Warburton Road after the alarm was raised shortly after 2pm.
Half of the loft space in a semi-detached house was destroyed by the fire, while a small part of a neighbouring loft was also damaged.
Three people managed to leave the property before firefighters arrived and there were no reports of injuries.
Fire crews believe the blaze was accidental and caused by a fault in a solar panel inverter.
During the incident, firefighters used a specialist product called PVStop to safely deal with the solar panels on the roof.
PVStop is a black liquid polymer coating sprayed over solar panels to block sunlight, effectively stopping them from generating electricity while crews tackle the fire.
The coating acts like a temporary liquid tarpaulin and allows firefighters to work safely around solar panel systems.
Control officers were alerted to the fire at 2.01pm and mobilised crews from Twickenham Fire Station and Heston Fire Station.
The fire was brought under control by 3.27pm.
