Zenith Fitness on Brewery Lane is "excited" to introduce a brand new Functional Fitness Class for Older Adults, running every Wednesday at 3pm.

Designed for complete beginners and suitable for any fitness level, the class focuses on building strength, improving mobility, and "keeping you moving comfortably through everyday life."

Zenith Fitness said: "As we age, our bodies naturally lose muscle mass and strength — a process known as sarcopenia.

"This can make daily tasks more difficult and increase the risk of falls or injuries.

"In fact, around 30% of people over 70 experience mobility challenges that affect their independence."

However, the new Functional Fitness Class can dramatically slow down this process.

The class focuses on strength and resistance training. The gym says this could be light weights, resistance bands, or even your own body weight, but not lifting heavy.

Zenith Fitness supports everyone on their fitness journey, regardless of their age or level (credit: Zenith Fitness).

Research from the National Institute on Aging (NIA) shows that older adults who take part in regular resistance exercise see improvements in:

  • Muscle mass and bone strength
  • Balance and coordination
  • Energy, confidence, and mood
  • Overall mobility and independence

The Twickenham gym continued: "Our new Wednesday class isn't just about exercise — it's about community.

"You'll train alongside friendly, like-minded people, all working toward the same goal: feeling great, moving better, and enjoying life to the fullest.

"It's about staying capable, active, and independent. You don't need to be an athlete to benefit — just a willingness to start."

As this is a brand new class, Zenith Fitness is offering a free taster session for newcomers.
