Lauren James scored two sensational goals for England today – Tuesday - as the team cruised to a 6-1 victory over China to claim a place in the last 16 at the World Cup.
The 21-year-old has been an inspiration to pupils at Twickenham School, who are cheering her on in the tournament in Australia and New Zealand.
And the school has celebrated her success by putting signed shirts and pictures of the local hero up on the walls.
In the first half, Lauren scored from a fantastic right foot shot from outside the box, while in the second she surged into the penalty area to hit a left foot volley past the China keeper.
And it might have been a hat-trick for the local star, who is the sister of England and Chelsea right back Reece James, but for a late off-side call in the build-up.
The goal festival was completed with impressive strikes from Alessio Russo, Lauren Hemp, Chloe Kelly and Rachel Daly.
Ahead of the tournament, staff and pupils at the school lined up to heap praise on the Lioness.
Deputy Headteacher, Sarah Bromly, said: "Lauren was a model student, worked hard, always tried her best, and was liked by all her peers. She was quietly unassuming, modest and kind.
"She was focused and had a dream which she was clearly determined to achieve. We are all immensely proud of Lauren and everything she has achieved.
Pupil Dominik Slowiak, aged 13, said: "Lauren has showed me that everything is possible with hard work and application."
Yasmin Camara, 13, said: "Lauren has been an inspiration to us all. We are all very proud of her."
The Lionesses spent a lot of time training at The Lensbury, in Teddington, during the successful run to victory in the Euros last year.
