River levels will be extremely high in Twickenham over the next few days as a full moon brings spring tides to the Thames.

High tide is forecast at 6.07am and 6.33pm tomorrow (Thursday, April 1) with water levels above 5 metres. They will remain high until Saturday.

A flood alert for the Tidal Thames riverside from Putney Bridge to Teddington Weir has been issued.

The Environment Agency said: "River levels are expected to be high as a result of spring tides. The forecast high tide at Richmond will be 4.88m at 5.30am on March 31 and 4.71m at 5.45pm.

"Flooding of low-lying roads and footpaths is expected, which may exist for one to two hours either side of high tide. Flooding of properties is not expected.

"We believe there is a possibility of flooding for Putney Embankment (SW15), Chiswick Mall and Strand on the Green (W4), Thames Bank at Mortlake (SW14), Ranelagh Drive (TW1), Friars Lane and Water Lane (TW9), Riverside and The Embankment at Twickenham and the Towpath below Teddington Lock.

"Astronomical tide levels are peaking. The river flow at Teddington Weir is normal for this time of year at 75 cubic metres per second and is steady.

"We anticipate the flows to remain normal for the next 5 days. We are closely monitoring the situation."
