A community wind band based in Twickenham is inviting local musicians to join its ranks as it opens recruitment this September.

The St Margaret's Elastic Band is seeking players of flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, horn, euphonium, tuba and percussion. With a new conductor now in place, the band says it is the perfect time to get involved.

No audition is required, and music is provided for practice at home.

The suggested level is around Grade 4/5+ with confident sight-reading skills, but organisers stress the emphasis is firmly on enjoying music-making together.

Rehearsals take place in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere on Tuesday evenings (7.30–9pm) during term time at St Stephen's School Hall, Twickenham.

The band also performs regularly at local community events.

Recruitment Co-ordinator Christina Daniel said: "We're a welcoming, inclusive group, and we love making music together. Whether you're a seasoned player or coming back to your instrument after a break, you'll find a friendly atmosphere here."

The group highlights that community bands offer much more than just music: they bring people together across generations, boost confidence, foster friendships and strengthen local cultural life.

Anyone interested in joining can contact Christina at [email protected], visit www.elasticband.org, or find the group on Facebook at St Margaret's Elastic Band Group.
