St Mary's Church due to undergo repairs in the Spring
Scaffolding has appeared on St Mary's Church in Twickenham following the discovery of some loose material.
A spokesperson for the church, Geoff Noble said: "Some weeks ago we discovered some loose material that had fallen from the cornice that runs round the top of the 300 year-old nave and chancel.
"As a precautionary measure, we put up protective scaffolding over the north and south doors while we investigated the cause of the problem."
"The failure of the old plaster render has been caused by long-term decay to the timber laths behind and will need to be replaced. We will also examine whether the problem is more widespread, and how to prevent it from re-occurring."
They hope to start repairs on the church in the spring.
St Mary's is a grade two listed building located on Church Street.
The church stands on the site of an earlier one and has been in Twickenham since the eighteenth century.
