An 18-year-old is in hospital after a stabbing last night in Mortlake.

Police were called at 8.10pm to reports of an assault close to Rann House on Mortlake High Street.

Eye-witnesses reported that the victims and the police chased a suspect through nearby alleyways and the streets.

The injured man received treatment on the scene and he was taken to hospital by air ambulance.

The police said that reports on social media that the victim had passed away are false and – in fact – his injuries are not life-threatening.

The Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called at 20:10hrs on Tuesday, 5 July to reports of an assault on Mortlake High Street, SW14.

"Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance attended.

"An 18-year-old man was taken to a south London hospital suffering from stab injuries; he remains there receiving treatment - his condition is not life threatening."

A crime scene remains in place.

A 24-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call police via 101 quoting reference CAD 7126/05Jul
