Richmond-based Ted Lasso has been nominated for an outstanding 20 awards at this year's Emmys - 'the Oscars of the global TV industry'.

The popular Apple TV series will be trying to defend its title as last year's best comedy and Ted Lasso himself, Jason Sudeikis, will want to continue his reign as winner of the outstanding lead actor in a comedy series.

Hannah Waddingham will also be trying to pull off a repeat victory from last year in the outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series category.

Ted Lasso has done a lot to boost the global presence of Richmond and has even resulted in a Ted Lasso tour which is the brainchild of actress and Richmond-local Emmy McMorrow.

The show's success has brought much joy to local people, along with economic benefits, not least during the recent filming of the third series with many shops selling merchandise from the hit comedy.

Other supporting and guest actors nominated this year are as follows:

 - Toheeb Jimoh as Sam Obisanya

 - Nick Mohammed as Nathan Shelley

 - Sarah Niles as Dr. Sharon Fieldstone

 - Juno Temple as Keeley Jones.

 - James Lance as Trent Crimm

 - Sam Richardson as Edwin Akufo

 - Harriet Walter as Deborah

 - Brett Goldstein as Roy kent, who walked away with the outstanding supporting actor in a comedy award last year.

Hannah Waddingham, who plays Rebecca Welton, the owner of AFC Richmond, who are coached by Ted Lasso, said: "When I saw Toheeb, Sarah, James and Harriet had been nominated I genuinely burst into tears.

"For us to be all drawn up like this is magical."

She said the cast is 'in shock" at the huge haul of nominations.

With another year of success on the horizon at the upcoming Emmys and the third series recently wrapping filming in town perhaps the continued support for the show will lead to the commissioning of a 4th series.
