Storm damage in Twickenham as strong winds and rain arrive

By The Editor 13th Aug 2021

Winds reached more than 50mph in Twickenham overnight - and it will remain blowy for the rest of the week.

Fences in a cul-de-sac off Waldegrave Road were blown over and a section of Bushy Park was closed to protect trees.

"Due to the current high winds and the number of large old conifers in a confined area, Bushy Park's Woodland Gardens will be closed until pronounced safe," the Royal Parks said. The area was open again by 11am.

In St Margarets winds reached speeds of 52mph during the night and the weather today is particularly erratic, switching between being overcast, bursts of sunshine and downpours.

On Friday the outlook is 'light rain showers and a fresh breeze' with winds of 19mph, but it should be sunny from 11am onwards.

The strong winds will remain throughout the weekend, but sunshine has been forecast for both days.
