A swimming teacher from south west London, Andy Dormer, has been awarded Local Star Teacher due to his 'patience, encouragement, and positive bond' he has with his students.

The Local Star Teacher award is presented to an inspirational individual who excels in teaching young children and babies to swim and receives glowing reviews from the parents and children they teach.

Puddle Ducks say that since joining the team, Andy's ability to connect with each child has made him a hit with children and parents alike.

The winning nomination was from Alina, whose daughter Sophia swims with Andy at Strathmore at Grey Court School in Surrey.

She comments: "Some people can teach, but others have a special gift for connecting with each child, inspiring them, and making them feel at ease with their positive energy.

"Andy is one of those rare, truly passionate teachers."

She adds: "Water activities don't come easily to all kids, but Andy makes it an experience that they don't want to end.

"My daughter listens closely to everything he says and enjoys every class, and we always look forward to the next class. With Andy, kids are engaged, and parents feel heard. I can't recommend his classes enough."

The winner of the award was chosen by Neetha Madrira, Nursery Manager at The Mall Nursery in Twickenham.

Neetha says: "Andy stood out to me for his patience, encouragement, and the positive bond he has with the children he teaches.

"Teaching children to swim is so special, and to bring positivity to the role and make children feel encouraged and supported, makes Andy fully deserving of the title of star teacher."

Andy, who lives in Kingston Upon Thames, teaches Baby and Pre-school classes at The Mall School in Twickenham on a Friday morning and at Strathmore at Grey Court School in Richmond Upon Thames on a Saturday and Sunday.

Reacting to his win, the 50-year-old explains: "I'm absolutely delighted to have won this award. I really like to connect and inspire the children I teach so that they feel positive in class and confident in the water. I am so grateful of the nomination and honoured to have won."
