The Turks Head, in St Margarets, won the best city/urban pub award at the Great British Pub Awards.

The Great British Pub awards, which took place in Manchester, ecognises excellence across a range of categories.

The competition sees thousands of pubs from across the UK fight it out across 15 categories, ranging from Best Pub for Food and Best Pub for Families, to Best Pub for Sport and Best Pub Garden.

The Turk's Head was declared the Best City/Urban Pub after a multi-stage judging process which saw the pub see off strong competition from five other finalists to take the title.

Ed Bedington, chair of judges for the Great British Pub Awards, said: "The awards are designed to identify and celebrate some of the best pubs in the country, and we're delighted that we're able to give The Turk's Head the recognition it deserves as a fantastic operation and one that is sure to have the customers flocking from far and wide.

"Pubs are a vital part of the fabric of our society, playing a huge role in communities and offering a wide range of services to support and bring people together.

"The Turk's Head should be very proud to be named one of the best in the country as should the community and customers that help make it what it is."
