Crowds gathered in Twickenham after a bus caught fire following a mechanical fault.

A London Fire Brigade (LFB) spokesperson said the "diesel single decker bus was destroyed by the fire" on Saturday 18 May, following the evacuation of all passengers and the driver before emergency services reached the scene.

No injuries have been reported.

Five fire engines and around 30 firefighters attended the blaze on Richmond Road in Twickenham after receiving the first 999 call at 1:18pm.

Ten calls were made to emergency services regarding the incident, with crews from Twickenham, Richmond, Heston and Kingston all responding.

Onlookers gathered to watch the spectacle, with Twitter user twitwardio tagging Twickenham Nub from the scene.

LFB believes the fire was accidental, caused by a mechanical fault with the diesel bus.

Firefighters brought the fire under control in about an hour, leaving the scene at 2:26pm.
