A much-loved mixed martial arts gym in Twickenham is saying "goodbye" to its King Street home after over four decades of training local residents.

Busen Martial Arts, which has taught judo, ju-jitsu and other disciplines to generations of Twickenham locals, has announced it will be relocating from its dojo at 9 King Street after 42 years of service.

Despite the move, the team behind Busen say the will "journey" continue at 244 Stanley Road, Twickenham.

In a message shared on social media, Busen said: "After 42 incredible years at our King Street location, it's time to say goodbye to a space that's been home to countless memories, black belts, bruises, and breakthroughs."

To mark the occasion, Busen is inviting the community to a farewell gathering on Sunday, 1 June, from 4pm to 6pm, at its original King Street dojo.

"Whether you've trained with us for decades or just dropped in for the occasional session, this is your chance to say farewell to the dojo, reconnect with friends, and honour the legacy we've built together," the team added.

The event will include an open mat for those wanting to stretch, roll or showcase their favourite techniques one last time — with all styles, from gi to no-gi, welcome.

To top off the farewell, Sensei Darren will be spinning a special playlist behind the decks, with Busen promising "good vibes guaranteed."

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own food and drink to share, though refreshments will also be available at the dojo.

While the move signals the end of an era at King Street, Busen says this is just the beginning of its next chapter.

"We'll be continuing our journey at the Busen Martial Arts and Sports Trust, 244 Stanley Road, Twickenham TW2 5NP — carrying the legacy forward, just in a new home," the team continued.

"So come down, celebrate the past, and raise a glass to the future. With gratitude and respect, The Busen Martial Arts Team."
