A café in Twickenham has been fined £40,000 for illegally employing a worker without the right to work in the UK

Green Bottle Café, located on Crown Road, was penalised by the Home Office after immigration enforcement officers found it had hired an individual without the legal right to employment in the UK.

Officers visited the café on 28 June 2024, and a fine was issued on 22 July 2024 to Dara Mangal Ltd, the company operating the business.

The penalty remains unpaid, and the debt has now been passed to the Home Office's specialist debt recovery contractors for enforcement action.

A Home Office spokesperson said: "Organised Immigration Crime is a multi-million pound industry, which stretches from the trafficking routes thousands of miles away through which people are brought to our country to the high streets across Britain where many of those people end up working illegally."

"As part of our Plan for Change, this government is cracking down on that criminal industry at every level, including stepping up our visits to businesses, including cafes, where illegal working is taking place and increasing our enforcement action both against illegal workers and the people who employ them."

Companies House records show that on 16 September 2024, Dara Mangal Ltd began the process of voluntary liquidation, meaning the company is shutting down.

Zain Iqbal of Cooper Young has been appointed to manage the liquidation.

Twickenham Nub News approached Green Bottle Café for comment where a member of staff confirmed that an illegal worker had been employed at the site last year but stated the café is now under different management.
