Twickenham cancer survivor thanks charity with concert
Local singer-songwriter Steve Hutchinson is hosting a benefit concert called 'Six of the Best' after overcoming blood cancer with the help of online charity CANCERActive.
The event will feature six artists and will take place on 15 June at The Exchange in Twickenham.
Last year, Mr Hutchinson turned to CANCERActive and alternative therapies as he found the conventional treatment 'too much'.
He says: "The drugs made me so sick I lost a stone in two weeks and felt dreadful.
"It (the decision to stop the chemotherapy) was a really scary moment but I knew if I wanted to live, I had to find another way."
CANCERActive founder Chris Woollams, a biochemist by training with over 20 years of experience in helping cancer patients, recommended Mr Hutchinson different supplements, a strict organic diet and Exercise with Oxygen Therapy.
And it worked: At the end of 2023, Mr Hutchinson received the good news that his cancer had resolved.
As a token of gratitude, he has organised 'Six of the Best', with all proceeds going to the online charity that supported him throughout his journey.
"Last year, I wasn't able to sing because of the cancer – so I am determined 2024 will be different!", the former lead singer with UK Moody Blues tribute band Blue Onyx says.
At the charity concert, he will perform alongside other artists, including Mandolin Jack, Elaine Samuel's Kindred Spirit Band, Alan Dublon's Secret, Surya Cooper and Nightshades.
"I'm delighted that I've been able to gather such an array of local talent, all of whom have written and recorded fantastic albums across several genres", he adds.
Be it Americana, Folk, Pop, Rock or Prog, 'Six of the Best' will have something for everybody to enjoy.
