Anyone who wishes to sing, connect with a local community group and make new friends should consider joining Twickenham Community Choir (TCC), the group say.

The choir rehearses weekly and always have a social at the end of each half-term, welcoming members of all voices, ages and backgrounds.

TCC tell Nub News: "We sing a wide range of music from Schubert to Sondheim so there is something for everyone. There are no auditions and you do not need to read music, just bring a love and enthusiasm for singing."

Choir members attest to the fun and friendly atmosphere in the choir, as well as the choir's music choices.

One member, Maria, says that "At the end of each session, I have felt uplifted and more confident in my singing".

Another choir enthusiast, Paul, writes that he has loved "finding [his] voice and enjoyed how I am encouraged and coached every week!"

The choir is run by singer Helen Astrid, who values the importance of singing together for its many physical and mental health benefits.

She says: "When you sing you use more of your lung capacity than normal, which oxygenates the blood and helps circulation. Singing works the respiratory muscles and helps asthmatics breathe more easily.

"It's a good way to get some gentle aerobic exercise; it also improves your posture and straightens your back and shoulders. If you sing regularly, it'll keep you young."

Helen was a recent guest on BBC Radio Berkshire/Oxford's 'ASK THE EXPERTS' programme and BBC World News where she talks about the joys of singing in choirs.

If you are interested, TCC run a free trial session for new members and begin again on 11 September. You can contact [email protected].
