Twickenham commuters to expect disruption this weekend on South Western Railway services
By Nub News Reporter 26th Jan 2026
South Western Railway (SWR) has warned passengers of significant disruption to train services affecting Twickenham this weekend due to planned engineering works.
The work will take place on Saturday 31 January and Sunday 1 February, with some lines between London Waterloo and Clapham Junction closed. This will result in revised and reduced services across large parts of SWR's network, including routes serving Twickenham.
Services between London Waterloo and Richmond, which pass through Twickenham, will be affected on both days, along with routes to and from Kingston, Hampton Court, Shepperton, Windsor & Eton Riverside, Guildford, Woking and Weybridge.
Queenstown Road station will be closed for the entire weekend, and passengers are advised to use alternative stations.
Some services will also not call at Earlsfield and Vauxhall, meaning customers travelling from Twickenham should check their journey carefully before setting off.
On Saturday 31 January, services between London Waterloo and Richmond (via Wimbledon) will start and finish at Clapham Junction, rather than continuing to Waterloo. Other suburban and long-distance services will also be revised, with altered stopping patterns.
Disruption will be more significant on Sunday 1 February. Services between London Waterloo and Richmond will only operate between Clapham Junction and Richmond via Kingston, affecting trains through Twickenham.
Afternoon and evening services on several routes will not run at all, while others will be diverted or terminate early.
SWR said the work is part of ongoing track, signalling and electrical upgrades carried out over the Christmas and New Year period, designed to improve reliability on one of the busiest parts of the rail network.
Peter Williams, South Western Railway's Customer and Commercial Director, said: "We're sorry for the disruption that customers may experience this weekend. It's important customers plan their journeys carefully and allow extra time, as some services will be revised with changes to calling patterns.
"When this maintenance is complete, our customers can expect fewer delays and a more reliable railway."
