Twickenham hairdresser Sabina Kossak has not put her scissors down since lockdown restrictions eased last Monday.

She is the owner of Hair by Sabina on Hampton road, which will turn four years old in August.

Her diary is full of back-to-back appointments and she is already completely booked up until late May. She even has a waiting list for those desperate for a cut.

"It's crazy busy," she said. "Everybody's so desperate to have a cut and colour! They have never been happier to see me.

"As soon as Boris said that everyone could come out again, people started making bookings.

"People were calling me and messaging me - I spent half a week with the diary in my hand!"

She has had quite a few customers who have cut their own hair during lockdown, with varying success rates.

She said: "It doesn't always work – but we can fix it."

She was slightly cautious about taking so many bookings when Boris announced the roadmap, in case things changed.

When we went into sudden lockdown in December she had a full diary of customers for pre-Christmas cuts that all had to be cancelled.

"I'll never forget that day, the 19th of December," she remembers. "It was crazy. It was the week before Christmas, I had so many appointments booked."

So how did she spend lockdown? "Sleeping!" she jokes. "I did a lot of walking, I love Richmond Park. It's just a huge area where you can walk for hours.

"A lot of people were walking during lockdown, it was helping people mentally as well. The lockdowns affect everyone, even when we think we are strong."

During lockdown she received government business grants which helped her business to survive.

She said: "It was a great help. I think we did really well in this country for business owners. I received enough for bills and rent for the business so I felt safe – I didn't have to worry about surviving."

Is she glad to be back? "Of course! Sitting at home is boring."

During the first lockdown her partner was on furlough but he worked the second, so she was at home alone.

Sabina moved to the UK from Poland 15 years ago and now has two daughters in their twenties.

She said she's most excited to be able to book a trip to one of her favourite holiday destinations, Greece. But for now she's looking forward to a staycation in the Lake District a little later in the year.

The salon is open Monday-Friday 9.30am-6pm and Saturday 9am-5pm – but if you want a haircut before summer ends get in quick!
