Twickenham MP Munira Wilson has been announced as the new Patron of The Purple Elephant Project (PEP), a Twickenham-based children's mental health charity dedicated to transforming the emotional wellbeing of children and families across the community.
The announcement, made yesterday (13 October), marks an important milestone for the charity as it continues to expand its reach and impact.
Wilson, who also serves as the Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Education, Children and Families, has long been a strong advocate for improving children's mental health services.
She has campaigned for a qualified mental health practitioner in every school and has been a vocal champion for kinship carers, placing children's wellbeing at the centre of her work.
Her appointment comes at a key moment for The Purple Elephant Project, which provides specialist creative therapies and emotional support to children and families experiencing trauma, anxiety, bereavement, and other challenges.
The charity's approach focuses on early intervention and long-term resilience, helping children to heal and thrive.
As Patron, Munira will help raise awareness of children's mental health issues, advocate for early intervention, and amplify family voices, while increasing visibility of the charity's work and its life-changing impact.
In addition, Munira will take part in her first fundraising event for The Purple Elephant Project by running the Cabbage Patch 10 race in Twickenham on 19 October.
"I am truly honoured to become Patron of The Purple Elephant Project," said Wilson.
"I've seen first-hand how vital their work is in supporting children's emotional wellbeing and giving them the tools to thrive.
"The charity's commitment to early intervention and long-term support makes a life-changing difference to children and families, and I am excited to help shine a light on their impact."
Jenny Haylock, CEO of The Purple Elephant Project, added: "We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Munira as our Patron.
"Her passion for children's mental health and deep understanding of the challenges families face align perfectly with our mission.
"Having Munira's support will help us raise the profile of our work, strengthen our voice, and champion the needs of children in our community."
