Twickenham playwright shortlisted for Edinburgh Fringe new writing award

A Twickenham-born playwright has been shortlisted for one of the Edinburgh Fringe's most prestigious new writing prizes with her experimental one-woman play Bog Body.
Jen Tucker's darkly comic and unconventional production tells the story of Petra, a grieving bride who, in the 40 minutes before she is due to marry, recounts how she came to know and love a preserved Iron Age corpse.
That corpse, known as the Lindow Man, was discovered in a peat bog in 1984 and is thought to have been a human sacrifice.

His remarkably preserved remains are on display at the British Museum, though the exact circumstances of his death remain a mystery.
Tucker explained: "The show sprouted from my own fascination with bog bodies, particularly the Lindow Man.
"It's about the space between sanity and insanity, reality and fiction, in which you often find the most interesting stories. I want audiences to come in thinking Petra is crazy, and leave questioning if a little part of them is too."

Bog Body, described by Everything Theatre as "a twisted tale of fragmented love" explores how we grieve for something we never truly had.
It sold out its London previews at Barons Court Theatre and Arches Lane Theatre, earning multiple four-star reviews.
From 18–24 August, the show will run at Paradise in the Vault at 2pm as part of the Edinburgh Fringe, where it has been shortlisted from thousands of productions for the Popcorn Writing Awards.
