Twickenham River Crane cleanup uncovers bikes, scooter and more
By Cesar Medina 23rd Jan 2026
Local charity Friends of the River Crane Environment (FORCE) got more than they expected during their annual river clean in Twickenham.
Led by trustee Rob Gray, a group of volunteers tackled a 500-metre stretch of the River Crane between the rifle club and the station, where they discovered quite the haul.
Among the items recovered were two Lime Bikes, a big metal door, a scooter, fencing, a collection of glass bottles, and large amounts of iron piping.
"Who knew what the river was hiding?" said FORCE.
The cleanup is part of FORCE's ongoing efforts to care for the River Crane and the green spaces around it, connecting the community with nature while improving the local environment.
Mark Hardy from Thai Upon Thames, who helped with the clean, joked: "I think the river was happy with us today."
The River Crane, rising in the hills of Harrow and flowing through the borough, is one of London's finest rivers.
Since the October cleanup, volunteers have continued litter picking and conservation work during monthly volunteer days on the second Sunday of each month, helping to keep the river and its surroundings safe and welcoming for wildlife and residents alike.
