Local school, Twickenham Primary Academy, has been named the winner of the nationwide 'VARTA Loves Powering Communities' competition, receiving £1,000 to support their school.

The campaign, run by VARTA Consumer Batteries UK, was launched to support charities and community groups across the country by providing funding to empower their projects.

PTA group Friends of Twickenham Primary Academy entered the competition with a compelling video submission, showcasing their commitment to enhancing the school environment for students by investing in new outdoor play equipment.

Simon Laidler, Marketing Manager at VARTA Consumer Batteries UK, visited Twickenham Primary Academy to meet teachers, parents and pupils to congratulate them on their achievement and learn more about how the funds will be used to benefit the school community.

Speaking about the visit, Simon said: "We are thrilled to name Twickenham Primary Academy as the winner of our VARTA Loves Powering Communities competition.

"The dedication of the PTA to improving the school environment is truly inspiring, and we're delighted this funding will help create a better outdoor space for the children.

"Visiting the school and seeing the passion behind this project was fantastic, and we're proud to support such a meaningful initiative."

Gemma Wright, from Friends of Twickenham Primary Academy, said: "As a PTA group, we're always looking for new ways to raise money for our school and we've been working really hard to improve the school playground.

"We were really excited to enter the VARTA Loves Powering Communities competition and the children are all looking forward to seeing the new games and activities that will transform the outdoor space."
